J'Adorable Poodles & Doodles

how do you know if the Bordoodle is a good match for you?

With so many Doodles to choose from, how do you know if the Bordoodle is a good match for you?

Why am I only covering the Bordoodle in this section? Because they are one of the Poodle crosses that people are not familiar with.

Let me share with you why I have chosen this cross and why I continue to raise them with proven genetics going back to the early 90’s.

First of all, you have the top two smartest Breeds combined in one.
The Border Collie and the Poodle.
They are not only highly intelligent and learn quickly, they are naturally intuitive.
It’s like they can read your mind.

They get this instinctive trait from the Border Collie. My Border Collie Max is the foundation of the success behind my Bordoodles. He goes back to my husband’s famous Nik dog from the early 90’s.
She was a Sports Performance dog that traveled all over the US putting on shows in front of large crowds. She is the great grandmother to Max.
Max was hand chosen by us to make the Bordoodle Cross.
He comes from Agilty/Sports Performance lines. He does not have a high work drive like most Border Collies, which makes his genetics wonderful for pet homes.
He also has a great off switch.
You could take him anywhere and he quickly gains a large fan club because he has the most amazing demeanor.

When it comes to temperament, the Bordoodle is an absolute delight.
They inherit the intelligence, loyalty, and trainability of both parent breeds, making them highly trainable and eager to please. Bordoodles are known for their ability to quickly learn new commands and tasks, making them excellent candidates for obedience training and various dog sports.

Now let’s specifically talk about the Bordoodle:

~~At the top of my favorite traits I love most about them is they are highly intuitive, often sensing and responding to their owners’ emotions. They can read you. Which makes for excellent Therapy and Service dogs. They are tuned in to their owners needs and emotions.

~~They are Loyal. Devoted to you and your family. They are often referred to as “Velcro dogs” as their bond is firm and they would follow you to the ends of the earth. Loyalty is a vital attribute of a family and their dog. People want to bring home a dog companion because of their loyalty and obedience. Good dogs are always loyal to their masters. Loyal dogs will save you a lot of time and effort, as they will shower you with unlimited love and support. They become an integral part of your family.

~~They adapt to various environments and situations. They are comfortable indoors and outdoors, in urban and rural settings and in different weather conditions. They love going anywhere and everywhere with their owners.
Always up for an adventure.
But they also have a great off switch in the house and enjoy downtime.
While some are cuddlers, others enjoy their space, but not far from you.

~~They are NOT an aggressive Cross.
Some can have a protective side, in which they surprisingly get from the Poodle.
In times of need, you want a dog that will alert you when they senses danger. They will alert and hopefully give you the time to act and protect yourself and your family. A good dog is protective of its owner and their property. They can sense potential threats and act as a deterrent to intruders. While they are generally friendly, Bordoodles can also be reserved around strangers, which makes them excellent watchdogs.
However, proper socialization from a young age can help them develop into well-rounded and confident adult dogs.

~~They are incredibly affectionate and thrive on human companionship. They form strong bonds with their families and are known for their gentle and patient nature, making them great companions for children and other pets. They are typically friendly when meeting humans and animals. They display appropriate social behaviors and are not overly aggressive.

~~They are playful, silly and have a happy temperament. A good dog has a playful nature, which is not only entertaining but also helps in building a strong connection with their owner. Playtime is an essential part of their routine. Ultimately, a good dog is a happy dog. They enjoy life and bring joy to their owner's life in return.

~~One of the most distinctive features of the Bordoodle is their coat. Thanks to the Poodle parent, Bordoodles have a low-shedding and hypoallergenic coat, making them a great choice for individuals with allergies. Their coat can vary in texture from wavy to curly. They come in a wide range of colors and patterns.

~~They are BEAUTIFUL to look at!
With their striking combination of the Border Collie’s expressive eyes and the Poodle’s curly coat, Bordoodles are undeniably adorable.

~~Thanks to their high intelligence and eagerness to please, Bordoodles are a dream to train. They excel in obedience training and are quick learners. However, it is important to remember that they can also be sensitive, so positive reinforcement methods are crucial for building trust and creating a strong bond with your Bordoodle.
Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement techniques such as treats, praise, and play are the keys to successful training sessions with a Bordoodle.
They thrive on mental stimulation, so incorporating puzzle toys and interactive games into their training routine can help keep their minds sharp and engaged.

***These next two can be said of most Doodle crosses***

~~Being a cross between the energetic Border Collie and the active Poodle, the Bordoodle requires regular exercise to keep both their body and mind stimulated. Daily walks, playtime, and interactive games are essential for preventing boredom and ensuring their overall well-being.

~~The benefits of the Bordoodle’s Poodle heritage is their low-shedding and hypoallergenic coat. However, this does not mean that they are maintenance-free in the grooming department. They do require grooming every 6-8 weeks. In addition to brushing, regular bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning are essential parts of their grooming routine. This is something you can learn to do yourself or seek out a Professional.
